Add New E-mail Account with Outlook Express.




This walk through will guide you through the steps of adding a new E-mail account in Microsoft Outlook 2002.

From the Outlook home page, click
Tools, then select E-mail Accounts from the drop down menu




This wizard will allow you to change the e-mail accounts and directories that Outlook uses. By default, the Add a new e-mail account radio button has been selected.

Click
Next to continue



Server Type

You can choose the type of server your new e-mail account will work with.
Microsoft Exchange Server: Connect to an Exchange server to read e-mail, access public folders, and share documents. POP3: Connect to a POP3 e-mail server to download your e-mail.IMAP: Connect to an IMAP e-mail server to download e-mail and synchronize mailbox folders.HTTP: Connect to an HTTP e-mail server such as Hotmail to download e-mail and synchronize mailbox folders.Additional Server Types: Connect to another workgroup or 3rd party mail server.

Select
POP3, and then click Next




Each e-mail account has an identity, which is the information that identifies you to others when they receive your messages. The name you enter will appear in the 'From' field of your outgoing messages. The e-mail address you enter will be the address others will use to send e-mail to you. For Verizon customers, the e-mail address should be 'username@verizon.net'.

Enter
Your Name and E-mail address.

Enter your
Incoming Server Name given to you by e-mail provider (for example, 'jsmith').

Enter your
Outgoing Server Name given to you by e-mail provider (this is typically the same as your incoming user name).

Enter your
User Name and Password.

After you are finished filling in your e-mail settings information, click
More Settings to continue



Click Outgoing Server tab



You will need to enable SMTP authentication for each mail software package that you use to send mail (so if you send mail from home and also from your office, you will need to adjust your mail software settings on both computers). You will also need to enable SMTP authentication for each POP email account that you use to send mail. .

Check the
My outgoing server (SMTP) requires authentication checkbox, and click the Advanced Tab to exit




Click the Advanced Tab.
On the advanced tab, ensure the following is populated
  • Verizon Server Port Numbers:
    • Incoming server (POP3): 995
    • Place a check in This server requires an encrypted connection (SSL)
    • Outgoing server (SMTP): 465
      • This should be port 465 for Verizon E-Mail addresses.
      • This should be port 587 for any third party mail provider
    • Place a check in This server requires an encrypted connection (SSL)
  • Server Timeouts
    • Set to preference - 1 minute or more is best
  • Delivery
    • This is customer preference.
  • Yahoo Server Port Numbers:
    • Incoming server (POP3): 110
    • DO NOT Place a check in This server requires an encrypted connection (SSL)
    • Outgoing server (SMTP): 587
      • This should be port 587 for Verizon Yahoo mail or any other third party mail provider
    • DO NOT Place a check in This server requires an encrypted connection (SSL)
  • Server Timeouts
    • Set to preference - 1 minute or more is best
  • Delivery
    • This is customer preference.

When all information has been populated, click OK



Click Next to continue
