Edit / Verify E-mail Account Configuration with Outlook
This walk through will show you how to verify or edit account settings in Outlook 2010
Click File and then Info
Now select the account you want to edit or verify in the Account Information drop down
Now click Account Settings.
An Account Settings drop down is displayed. Click it
On the E-Mail tab, select the account in the list and then click Change
Ensure the following information is populated correctly:
- User Information
- Your Name: Customer's name as they want it to appear in an E-Mail
- E-mail Address: Customer's E-Mail address (ex: address@verizon.net)
- Server Information
- Account Type: POP 3
- Incoming mail server: pop.verizon.net
- Yahoo Verizon server is: incoming.yahoo.verizon.net
- Outgoing mail server: smtp.verizon.net
- Yahoo Verizon server is: outgoing.yahoo.verizon.net
- Login Information
- User Name: VZID or self selected Verizon username (ex: vze123456)
- Password: Associated password.
- Remember password: place a check in the box
- Require logon using SPA: remove the check from the box
- Test Account Setting by clicking the Next button: place a check in the box
When all information has been confirmed, click More Settings
Here you can name the account
Click the Outgoing Server TAB
Ensure the settings are as follows:
Place a check in the box next to "My outgoing server (SMTP) requires authentication"
Place the radio dot in front of "Use same settings as my incoming mail server"
Click the Connection tab
Make sure the radio dot is placed in front of "Connect using my local area connection (LAN)"
Click the Advanced TAB
Click the Advanced Tab.
On the advanced tab, ensure the following is populated
- Verizon Server Port Numbers:
- Incoming server (POP3): 995
- Place a check in This server requires an encrypted connection (SSL)
- Outgoing server (SMTP): 465
- This should be port 465 for Verizon E-Mail addresses.
- This should be port 587 for any third party mail provider
- Use the following type of encrypted connection "SSL"
- Server Timeouts
- Set to preference - 1 minute or more is best
- Delivery
- This is customer preference.
- Yahoo Server Port Numbers:
- Incoming server (POP3): 110
- DO NOT Place a check in This server requires an encrypted connection (SSL)
- Outgoing server (SMTP): 587
- This should be port 587 for Verizon Yahoo mail or any other third party mail provider
- Use the following type of encrypted connection "None"
- Server Timeouts
- Set to preference - 1 minute or more is best
- Delivery
- This is customer preference.
When all information has been populated, click ok
You are returned to the Change Account info screen
Click NEXT
The Test Account Settings window should appear
When all tests have been completed successfully, click CLOSE
Look for the "You have successfully entered all the information...." prompt
Click finish
You are returned to the Account Settings page
Click Close
You will be returned to the Outlook 2010 main VIEW
